Gustav Meyrink

Gustav Meyrink, the illegitimate son of Maria Wilhelmina Adelheid Mayer and Minister of State Karl Freiherr von Farnvuhler, was born on January 19, 1868 in Vienna. His mother was an actress and therefore traveled a lot with the theater. Childhood and youth Meyrinka were in constant trips. He studied in gymnasiums – alternately in Munich, Hamburg and Prague. Literary scholars and biographers Meyrinka believe that the writer’s mother treated her son rather coldly, and the boy was deprived of maternal warmth in childhood. Some believe that this is why the writer later succeeded in vampiric and demonic female characters and positive figures came out rather flat. In 1888, Meyrink graduated from the Academy of Commerce in Prague. After that, he founded, with the nephew of the poet Christian Morgenstern, the trading bank Mayer and Morgenstern, which for some time functioned quite successfully.

Engaged in banking activities not very diligently, Meyrink led a high life in Prague. Once he even fought a duel with some officer because of an inappropriate and offensive hint of illegitimate birth.

In 1892, Meyrink married Edwig Maria Zertl – but rather quickly became disillusioned with this marriage and did not Continue reading

Born in 1972 in London in a family of hippie parents. To them, among other things, he owes his strange name (“China” – “China” (Eng.)) And communication in childhood with friends with no less strange names – Cascade and India.

China Mieville loved to read from childhood, but, according to him, was not an active fan and did not know anything about fan conventions. However, he carefully studied many science fiction magazines such as Interzone, as well as the science fiction column in White Dwarf. A lot of books he read back in his school years inspired his first works of his own, and despite the fact that most of the writing was rejected by publishers, his story Highway Sixty One Revisited and the poem Ex-Beatles in Seance by Steve were published in 1985 Bailey. ”

From early childhood, China lived in London, studied at a boarding school. When he was eighteen, he worked for a Continue reading

ROBERT HEINLINE

Failures in ordinary activities and loan debts gave Heinlein the incentive to start writing and publishing his own works of art. In 1939, he sold his first story, The Line of Life, to the publisher. After that, he earned mainly in writing, putting aside all other hobbies.

The Life Line was written in the genre of science fiction, which became the leitmotif of all the work that Robert Heinlein followed. The comments on the story were positive, and the writer decided to continue the “Life Line” with a cycle of similar works.

The result was a “History of the Future.” This cycle included several short stories, novels, and novels. The plot generalized the history of mankind in the period from XX to XXIII century. Most of the books were written at the beginning of the author’s career, as well as from 1945 to 1950. Editor John Campbell called Continue reading
